Rediscovering a Family Craft
I didn't discover metalsmithing. I came home to it.
What began as an exploration of creativity unexpectedly led to rediscovering a family tradition.
Jewelry making wasn't a path I intentionally set out to follow. It grew naturally from a lifelong love of creating and a curiosity to explore new mediums. Along the way, I discovered something beautiful: I had unknowingly found my way back to a craft that had once been part of my dad's own journey.
Today, many of the tools I use—including my dad's fire block and the inscribed G+G mallet—are used to craft unique, one-of-a-kind pieces at my studio in Bailey, Colorado. Using those same tools reminds me that some stories don't disappear; they simply wait to be rediscovered.
From my mountain studio, I create handcrafted wearable artwork inspired by nature, connection, and the stories that shape us. Each piece features sterling silver and begins with intention, crafted slowly by hand to allow the design to unfold through the stone, the metal, and the moment it was made. This is the essence of Tatanka Ska Designs.
